OFSAA Update (Day Three)

A final recap of HWDSB/HWIAC teams competing at OFSAA championships in basketball and volleyball. Championships are being held across the province from March 9-11, 2015.

Boys Basketball (AAAA)
Sir Allan MacNab lost a spirited consolation semifinal game against London’s H.B. Beal 65-61 to end the Lions OFSSA journey on Wednesday morning.  The game was a back and forth slugfest with both teams holding leads late in the game.  Ultimately the Lions fell with H.B. Beal moving on to win the Consolation Championship.  Top scores for MacNab in the semifinal game were Khaleem Bennett with 15 points and Matt Grace with 11. [Tournament Website]

Boys Basketball (AAA)
Saltfleet finished as the fourth best team at the OFSAA AAA championship after two heartbreaking overtime losses to close the tournament.  In the championship semifinal game this morning, No. 3 West Humber CI (Etobicoke) came from behind to edge the Storm 59-57 in overtime.  That set up an all Hamilton bronze medal game between Cathedral HS and Saltfleet. The game was a back-and-forth affair with Cathedral earning a narrow 85-81 overtime victory over the Storm.  Saltfleet’s Darnell Curtin and Nicola Djogo each posted 24 points in the bronze medal game. Boys Basketball (A)
Hamilton District Christian High lost its consolation semifinal losing a heartbreaker to No. 11 St. Lawrence SS (Cornwall) 54-51. Trevor VanderMeer was the Knights top scorer posting 19 points in the loss.  HDCH can take solace in the fact that St. Lawrence would go on to defeat North Middlesex DHS (Parkhill, Ont.) in the Consolation Final 67-61.
