OFSAA Update – Day One

A look back on day one of OFSAA basketball, volleyball, and hockey championships involving HWDSB and HWIAC member teams:

Boys Basketball (AAAA)

Sir Allan MacNab was in tough during their opening match losing to No. 1 seed St. Mike 70-53. Shaivonte Gilgeous-Alexander was the top scorer for the Lions posting 17 points in the loss.   On Tuesday, MacNab who is the 11th seed will face off against No. 16 Holy Names HS (Windsor) with tipoff scheduled for 9:00am. Boys Basketball (AAA)

Saltfleet cruised past Kingston’s Frontenac SS with a 68-47 win in their opening round game.  Nicola Djogo had a game high 28 points while teammate Kingley Campbell-Olsen poured in 19 points to lead the No. 2 ranked Storm.  On Tuesday, Saltfleet will meet No. 15 OD/Park SS (Orillia) with that game going at 12:00pm.  Webcasting of all games is available by visiting: https://www.ustream.tv/channel/ofsaa-aaa-basketball-2015 [Tournament Website]

 

Boys Basketball (A)

No. 4 Asbury College got past Hamilton District Christian High by the score of 66-55. Tuesday will see HDCH will play No. 7 E.J. Lajeunesse (Windsor) at 11:00am.  HDCH is ranked 10th in the tournament seedings. [Tournament Website]

 

Girls Hockey (AAA/AAAA)

No. 2 ranked Saltfleet dropped their opening game 6-0 against  Louis-Riel (Gloucester) but rebounded in their second game of pool play with a 4-3 win over No. 18 MIchael Power/St. Joseph(Etobicoke) Saltfleet holds and 1-1 record continues pool play tomorrow with the Storm meeting St. Theresa (Midland) at 8:00am and then Bill Crothers (Markham) at 2:00pm.

No. 20 Waterdown currently sits 0-2 record with two tough losses coming in the first day of pool play.  Appleby College got past Waterdown 7-1 in their opening game while Medway HS (Arva) won 6-1 in their second matchup.   Tomorrow Waterdown will face off against Bishop Tonnos CHS (Hamilton) at 9:30am followed by Fr. Leo J. Austin CSS (Whitby) at 3:15pm. Semifinal and Championship play goes Wednesday with the top two teams out of each pool advancing to championship round play. [Tournament Website]

 

Volleyball (AAAA)

Westdale sits winless after their first two games of pool play with the Warriors dropping their opening match 2-0 (13-25, 16-25) to Holy Name HS (Windsor).  In their afternoon match, Westdale lost to Maxwell Heights SS (Oshawa) 2-0 (11-25, 17-25). Round Robin play wraps tomorrow with the Warriors meeting Bill Crothers SS (Markham) at 10:30am. [Tournament Website]

 

Volleyball (A)

No. 5 Hamilton District Christian hold a perfect record (2-0) in pool play following the first day of competition. HDCH used their home court advantage to capture their opening game edging  No. 12 Académie Mère-Teresa   2-1 (25-21, 16-25 15-11)  . They followed that by dusting No. 15 Sainte-Marie (New Liskeard) 2-0 (25-16, 25-15).  Pool play wraps tomorrow with HDCH meeting  St. Thomas Aquinas HS (Kenora) at 10:30am.
