The Loran Award Who May Apply?
The Loran Awards are available for undergraduate study at specific universities only. Check the website to determine if you would be eligible BEFORE you decide to apply for this award. Loran Award holders must meet university and program admission requirements.  There are 2 ways to apply:

  1. Students who wish to apply as a “SCHOOL SPONSORED APPLICANT” must submit their completed application to Mr. Nicholson by Monday, October 2, 2017 at 3:00pm.  (Schools can select up to 3 sponsored applicants only.)  The Scholarship Selection Committee will select ALL sponsored applicants and inform those who have applied in a timely manner of their decision.
  2. Students who are applying as a “DIRECT POOL APPLICANT” can complete all forms themselves and request additional information directly from their guidance counsellor.

When to Apply?

  1. If you wish to be a school sponsored applicant, ALL application materials must be submitted to Mr. Nicholson by 3:00pm on Monday, October 2, 2017.  (completed applications for school sponsored applications must be received by the Loran Awards Committee by October 18, 2017 at 8:00pm).
  2. If you wish to apply as a DIRECT POOL APPLICANT, your completed application package must be received by October 25, 2017 at 8:00pm.

NOTE: The FULL Loran Scholarship is only available to students applying to Partner Universities.  Provincial and Finalist Awards are open to students attending any public university in Canada.

Blyth Cambridge Trust Scholarships

Who May Apply?


Students must be a full IB Diploma student or have 3 higher level courses, be in the top 2% of their class, and demonstrate financial need.  Students must also be Canadian Citizens/permanent residents, show academic excellence, intellectual depth, and personal integrity.

When to Apply?


Application opens June 1 and closes October 19.  Students must also complete their UCAS application by October 15th.

admission to Cambridge University also includes:tuition, travel costs, and living allowance for 3 years is provided
University of Toronto National Scholarship Program

Who May Apply?


This National Scholarship Program recognizes students who demonstrate superior academic performance, original and creative thought, and exceptional achievement in a broad context. They excel in academic pursuits, demonstrate enthusiasm for intellectual exploration and have a strong involvement in the lives of their schools and communities. Students must be Canadian citizens and permanent residents intending to begin university study in September 2018.  There are 2 ways to apply to this scholarship program:

  1. School Sponsored Applicant:  Each school may only nominate one student. Interested students must complete the application package and hand it in to Mr. Nicholson in Guidance by October 14, 2017 at 3:00 p.m.
  2. Direct Pool Applicant:  Students may apply to this Scholarship Program as Direct Applicant if they are not selected as the school sponsored applicant.

When to Apply?

The University of Toronto’s deadline for nominated and direct pool application submissions is November 3, 2017.

Horatio Alger Ontario Scholarship Who May Apply?

Scholarships of up to $10,000 are awarded to full-time students in their terminal year of high school with financial need (family income under $65,000) who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, a commitment to pursue a post-secondary education, a desire to contribute to society, and a good academic record. 
When to Apply?
Application due date is October 25.

The Royal Bank has a number of undergraduate and other degree scholarships.

When to Apply?
Deadlines are different for each scholarship.  Some deadlines are in November.

Queen’s University-Major Admission Awards Who May Apply?
Applicants who demonstrate creative and original thinking, involvement in school or community activities, and proven leadership qualities can apply for a Major Admission Award when entering Queens University. Financial need is also a consideration for some of Queens major entrance awards.  NOTE: All Major Admissions Awards (MAA) can be applied to from the same application.  Applications will be forwarded through the student’s SOLUS account.  Students MUST apply to Queen’s University by November 15 to ensure they have their SOLUS account activated to submit MAA applications.

    1. The Chancellor’s Scholarship requires a nomination and a MAA application.  Students who wish to be nominated for the Chancellor’s Scholarship must complete the practice Major  Admission Awards application and submit it to Mr. Nicholson in Student Services by November 16, 2018 at 3:00pm.
    2. Queens Chancellor’s Application for Selection Committee 2019-2020
  1. QuARMS – Queen’s Accelerated Route to Medical School:  Students wishing to gain the nomination for this MUST also be a Chancellor’s Scholarship nominee.  Any students wishing to be the QuARMS nominee must also apply to be a Chancellor’s Scholarship candidate and follow the same deadline requirements.

When to Apply?

Students wishing to apply for ANY Major Admissions Award MUST apply to Queen’s University through OUAC by November 20 to ensure their SOLUS account is activated.Students will apply to ALL Queen’s major Admission Awards through their SOLUS accounts by December 1.

OSSTF Student Achievement Awards in Honour of Marion Drysdale Who May Apply?
There are several categories of awards available for students.

When to Apply?
Students are requested to present their work to sponsoring teacher by November 16, 2018 – deadline may be flexible. All pieces must be submitted by the school to the local district office by December 3, 2018 for evaluation.

The TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership

Who May Apply?


This scholarship is for students who have demonstrated outstanding community involvement, and have a minimum average of 75%. Personal circumstances and/or challenges are considered as part of the application process. Students must be in their final year of high school.

When to Apply?


Application deadline, all applications and supporting documents are to be received by November 30, 2018.

A variety of scholarships are available for students who plan to attend the University of Alberta. Applications for scholarship competitions are available starting in October.

JEFF DICKINS AWARD Who May Apply?
This awards is for students in grade 12 from the Hamilton school board who will be attending a post-secondary institution. This award is given to a high school student who demonstrates a commitment to athletic participation, while maintaining a high academic standard and was involved in the community.

Nomination MUST be received by December 20, 2018. (check for updated due date)

The award is a specially designed plaque and a monetary reward from the Jeff Dickens Memorial Bursary

Western University National Scholarship Program Who May Apply?
Recipients of these scholarships are evaluated based on outstanding academic performance, an ability to demonstrate creativity and innovative thought, and a passion for the pursuit of learning. Students will also be considered for their exceptional leadership in extracurricular activities, including the arts and athletics with a special emphasis placed on the candidate’s commitment to community service. Recipients must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and have obtained a minimum of 90% academic average. (1 additional applicant may be an International Student).

  1. ONLY 4 applicants can be nominated from this school for these awards.  All interested students MUST submit a pdf of their completed Nomination Form and Reference Letters to Mr. Nicholson in Guidance to be considered for this scholarship by January 11, 2019.
  2. Use the following template for reference only.  Students must complete the online application and print a pdf to submit to Mr. Nicholson.

Schulich Leader Scholarships

Who May Apply?

To qualify, nominees must:
1. Graduate high school in 2018/2019 academic year.
2. Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
3. Enroll at a Schulich partner university in an area of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)Students must demonstrate 2 of 3 selection criteria:
1. Academic excellence
2. Outstanding community, business or entrepreneurial leadership
3. Financial need
AND
Be entrepreneurial minded, intending to pursue a career in:
1. Technology
2. Innovation
3. Engineering
4. Scientific Research (Research into questions posed by scientific theories and hypotheses)NOTE: Schulich evaluators are NOT looking for students pursuing careers in:
1. Medicine (Practicing Physician)
2. University of Guelph – President’s and Chancellor’s Scholarships Who May Apply?
Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada entering first year of any degree program at the University of Guelph. The Lincoln Alexander Chancellor’s Scholarship specifically applies to an Aboriginal person of Canada, a person with a disability, or a member of a visible minority. Pamella Wallin’s Chancellor’s Scholarship requires superior leadership and interest in international relations and development. The President’s Scholarships recognize students of academic distinction who have made significant contributions to their schools and their communities and demonstrate the potential to become leaders in society. Students must achieve a minimum of 90% academic average for eligibility.

Engineers Canada Awards Who May Apply?
The Gold Medal Student Award is for outstanding leadership, contributions to society, and volunteerism by an undergraduate engineering student.

Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation Scholarship and Citizenship Award Who May Apply?
Applicants must be a Canadian resident who is pursuing post-secondary education and meet the service and financial criteria. Successful applicants will have demonstrated extensive volunteer and community service and commitment to humanitarian causes.

Students must be planning to attend a post secondary institution next year. Recipients will demonstrate high ideals and qualities of citizenship. Criteria of winners includes community and volunteer involvement, financial need and knowledge of KIN Canada.

Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program

Who May Apply?
Award recipients must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants. They must be graduating secondary school students or students studying towards a first undergraduate degree or diploma at a Canadian college or university. Awards will be based on the students’ dedication to humanitarian ideals, their courage in overcoming obstacles, their participation in sport, fitness and community services, and their academic standing.

Who May Apply?

Students graduating or in their final year of secondary school may apply. Students will be evaluated on their final admission average (94%+), their leadership experiences, and their community involvement.

Huron at Western University Hellmuth Scholarship Program

Who May Apply?

Huron University College awards up to ten Hellmuth Scholarships to entering students who display outstanding academic achievement together with a strong record of extra-curricular activities. If you anticipate having a mid-year average of 90% or higher, we encourage you to apply for a Hellmuth Scholarship.This award is separate from Western’s National Scholarship Program.

Max Rotman Humanitarian Youth Awards Who May Apply?
Students must be in grade 11 or 12. The award recognizes outstanding student leaders in our community. Award winners will conduct themselves in a manner bringing honour to their community, family and self and are dedicated to serving the needs of the community. They must have the potential of becoming future leaders within their community. Nominations for this award are limited to 5. Students interested in this award MUST see Mr. Nicholson in Guidance by April 15th.

This scholarship is open to Canadian citizens with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus who are residing in Ontario.  CARSO Anthony DiLena Pathways Award Who May Apply?
Five pathway awards will be given each year. Students must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  1. succeeded in school despite overcoming personal obstacles
  2. succeeded in school despite having to cope with bullying and/or violence
  3. succeeded in school despite being socioeconomically disadvantaged
  4. succeeded in school despite having to manage a mental health issue
  5. succeeded in school despite having to manage academic challenges

Students must be nominated by a teacher or guidance counsellor. All nomination must be signed by the principal of the high school.

The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life Scholarship Program

Who May Apply?

One scholarship will be granted to a grade 12 Ontario student who aspires to have a career in medicine or health science and is attending a university.  Recipients will be evaluated on academic excellence, leadership, collaboration, raising social awareness of issues, and a high quality of personal traits.  Applicants will also be evaluated on previous awards, extra-curricular activities and community service.

When to Apply?

Application deadline is June 10.

Fraser Institute Student Scholarship Who May Apply?

Graduating students who are attending CEAB university of college program next year can apply. Awards will be granted based on community involvement, extracurricular activities, competitions and the student’s intent on pursuing a career in engineering. Students must submit an essay as part of the application.

When to Apply?

Application deadline is June 30.
