Curriculum Focus

Last updated on Monday, September 08, 2014.

Our School Improvement Plan is based on the design of SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Results-oriented and Time-bound), moving forward with HWDSB and school based initiatives to improve student learning. Professional Development is a strong focus as we continue to build capacity in the area of higher level thinking.  We are fortunate to work with a Instructional Coach.  Program planning and implementation follows the Teaching Learning Critical Pathway (TLCP) framework.

Areas of focus, in both English and French, include…

  • Shared, Modeled, Guided and Independent Reading and Writing
  • Hands On/ Problem Solving Math – Math Lesson Study

Targets are set using HWDSB and school data.  Our EQAO results demonstrate that there is a trend of overall growth in the areas of Reading and Writing.  Our focus is on math to improve our overall scores.  Student data is used to determine areas of need, with focus in these areas.

School Council has supported our Curriculum Focus.  A very successful Learning Through Science Evening was held in January 2011 where children and parents engaged in science activities provided by various Hamilton agencies. In 2012, we had a fun filled evening where children and parents were invited to experience art activities with local artists.  Through various fundraising events, our literacy and technology initiatives have been supported for students.   We now numerouse Smart Boards, iPads in every classroom, and various modes of technology throughout the school.
