Arts and Crafts |
The Inuit had a pretty good amount of things to carve with. The Inuit's most common carving tool was the stone because it was the strongest. Wood was the weakest carving tool. Other tools they used were soapstone, ivory, bones and antlers. The Inuit may not of had knives, but they used what they had around them for their carving tools. Mask The Inuit used their arts and crafts for their own special reasons. The women gave the children dolls that they considered crafts to keep them occupied. The Inuit used their arts and crafts for very special ceremonies or for funerals. Arts and crafts meant something special to most of the Inuit. Arts and crafts also told other people about them, their family or friends.
The Inuit spent a lot of time making different pieces of art. They made spirit helpers that they thought would help them with different things they had to do. Half person half animal was the most common piece of art made. They made sculptures that could have an animal or person at the top. Toys crafts were made for the children. The Inuit made seals and sea birds as well. Masks were also a very common art and craft that the Inuit made. |
